Keep It Clean Nola Awards Gala will support local musicians, artists, businesses and a green infrastructure project for The United Houma Nation.
Presented by the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, Batture, New Orleans & Company, Energy Smart NOLA, the City of New Orleans Office of Sustainability & Resilience, The Sheraton New Orleans, LifeCity and the Regional Sustainability Committee, the 11th annual Love Your City™ Awards Gala will honor local businesses and organizations for their environmental and social impact achievements. This year’s event will be hosted by Shervey Carter and DJ Novi, with keynote speakers Leona Tate of the TEP Center and Jennie Romer of the EPA and include an art exhibit by Jacqueline Ehle Inglefield, a local artist who creates amazing pieces from recycled plastic and waste found in the Gulf region and a performance by Young Fellas Brass Band, The Congo Square Drum Circle, and other surprise guests!
This year’s event will celebrate the end of the recent Keep It Clean Nola Campaign. Awards will be given across 10 categories including Transportation, Education, Equity, Zero Waste, Health, Water Management, Local Culture, Built Environment and Food Access. Awards are given to businesses and organizations that have lead in these categories, taking equitable and sustainable actions that strengthen the New Orleans Community. Any business or organization is eligible to win an award. To be in the running to win, the business or organization must create a profile on loveyourcity.us and “earn a badge” by uploading their achievements in each category. These achievements are listed under the badge action items. Just upload a photo to validate your action, save, and you’re in the running to win! We look forward to celebrating with the New Orleans community.
Funding raised from this event will support a Green Infrastructure development plan for the United Houma Nation Tribal administrative and headquarters building. The United Houma Nation Tribal administration and headquarters is 33,000 square feet of needed space to allow the people of the Tribe to grow and flourish with access to sustainable programs that support their physical, economic, and cultural wellbeing. Unfortunately, due to the age of this donated building and the increased concrete footprint that now surrounds it from home constructions since its establishment in the 1980s, storm water is increasingly problematic to the overall health and welfare of the structure, as well as its accessibility to the community. Proceeds from the 2023 Love Your City™ Awards will support the UHN Hazard Mitigation and Cultural Resilience Project which is to be executed over a five-year period beginning in 2024.
