New Orleans Carriage Cab Company, founded by Russian émigré Simon Garber, celebrated its grand opening with a krewe of several dozen maroon Ford Crown Victoria cabs, a ceremony attended by political and civic leaders including Kenya J.H. Smith, Executive Assistant to Mayor Nagin; Ernest Gethers, Director, Business Retention & Expansion, City of New Orleans; Sidney Bournes, Deputy Director of Safety and Permits, City of New Orleans; and Ben Johnson, Managing Director, New Orleans Chamber of Commerce. New Orleans Carriage Cab Co. is the third US cab company founded by Garber. He has a fleet of 300 cabs in NYC and is the largest operator in Chicago with over 900 taxis.

New Orleans’ newest cab company raises the bar on taxi service in New Orleans with its growing fleet of distinctive marron cabs, well-trained drivers and prompt, courteous service to all New Orleans neighborhoods all day, every day – 24/7. Each of the 52 cabs is equipped with GPS-Dispatch, credit card, smart card and data dispatch ability. Garber plans to have 500 cabs as demand increases.

Following the ceremony there was an outdoor picnic adjacent to its 10,000 square-foot facility at 4431 Euphrosine Street. An enormous ribbon wrapped around one of the new maroon cabs was untied by Garber and city officials. Scores of New Orleans Carriage Cab drivers and guests lunched on authentic New Orleans cuisine while listening to Fritzel’s New Orleans Jazz Band.
